MIDI Clock resources

Hi guys,

I have made a clock for a MIDI to CV convertor, and it dosen't work.
(Its from another aargh! Penfold book).
It's a 500Khz clock running off a 1Mhz crystal oscillator. Trouble is, I
have no idea how you get crystal oscillators to provide a clock signal,
so I don't know whether my PCB is wrong or the schematic is wrong.
Does anyone know if there is a web page that has a simple clock circuit
or explains how to get a clock signal from an oscillator?
