embalmed sliders help

Ahhh.. I've had much the same problem. Using standard pot cleaner on
sliders for some reason tends to inhibit movement... the cleaner seems to
destroy or break down whatever lubricant comes on slide pots to begin
with.

I remember once I had this problem with the slide pots on a technics
1200... turns out the bearings needed some additional lubrication or else
they totally froze up! I think I ended up getting an entirely new slider.

WD40 is a cure-all lubricant... you know, cleans tires, lubricates
switches, makes a great dessert topping :) Lots of people swear by it, but
I have no idea if it would be appropriate for lubing slide pots.... mainly
since I don't know how conductive the spray is.
