where to start ?

PAiA is coming out with a modular synth soon. You can build the midi2cv8
and power wing now, and by the time you're done they'll probably be
shipping the filter module. The downside is, they haven't released any
more modules than these, so if you're impatient you'll probably want to go
with a different kit set. PAiA has a ton of experience designing kits for
numbskulls like you and me though, so it's a safe bet that you'll get
something useable for your money out of them.

Along the same lines as the PAiA modulars, you may want to check out the
kits from Blacet Research. They seem to want to mesh with the rest of the
PAiA modules, since they're designed to sit in Fracraks.

If only I had studied EE instead of CS, I could get up on my high(er) horse
right now and tell you to design your own fookin modules, ya poseur.
