I have tried the Maxx' VCA (CA3080+TL072) before. Thanks to Tomg it works
well, but there is a certain "hiss" that is not what I expect from a musical
instrument ;-)
Then I pointed my attention to Korg's project: half a 4558 and 2 transistors
to realize a less noisy VCA (take a look to MadMouse VCA section)!
 - it is simple and efficient
 - control voltage must be 0 /+5 V
 - the behavior is honestly good

I made a little mod to the original KLM-127, because coupled NPN didn't
want to work properly: 1NPN+1PNP work fine.
What can I say? Try different projects, compare the results and let your
taste choose for you: then play until cops knock at your door :-)

      be happy
