Geoff,
that's a Voltage Controlled Envelope Generator made by Solid State
Music in the 80's .
SSM doesn't exist any longer. They've been aquired by Analogue
Devices.
AD discontinued quite some time ago all SSM chips being dedicated for
synthesizer applications ( except some VCA's ).
