It seems its the same thing everywhere. At NYU we have a huge buchla (the
one Subotnick used) but only three or four modules are working. I ofered
to work on it (Christopher -also on synth DIY and much more experienced
than I said he could help me) but they told me they would prefer me not
to try. Just like you describe things at Brandeis... here, one studio has
an Eventide 3000 and a Kurtzweil 2500 that will not receive any signal
simply because it was never reconected properly after having been removed
for some concert (usless as it may seem, you can get signal out of both),
furthermore, they really don't like users pluging in things on their own
(which I guess is understandable except the studio is not configured).
I just wanted to join you in the lament. I don't know about you but when
I started at NYU I was really excited and now I don't know. I am
seriously in debt and, although I know all the advantages of being at a
univewrsity (watch me as I use their computers, test equipment, facilities
LIBRARY, etc.) I can't help thinking about the studio the same money would
have bought me. Anyway, thats the bed I made... Good luck on that
sample CD
