Why not use a comparator array in the first place?
If you take a tri wave with eg. 8 comparators evenly spaced,
you can derive a logic funtion (together with the square wave of the tri osc)
that should give a pulse train. There will bew some glitches, however.
Perhaps, since the signal direction is known , one could avoid such glitches.
