Well, there is a block diagram of sorts on the PAiA page that shows
functionally how their vocoder works. I think conceptionally they are all
much the same. The major differences seem to be, "how many bands?" and,
"how much money do you have?" Seriously, the PAiA explanation helped me
understand it somewhat.
