ReBirth, 303's, and subjective opinions

-just something i find ironic:

-people argue a lot over whether ReBirth is a proper emulation of a
303/808/909 (i won't get into it; i've never used the originals, so i can't
say). However, the 303 and 808 were originally supposed to emulate REAL
bass guitar and drums; which they are obviously HORRIBLE at (i would say far
worse at that than rebirth is at emulating them). however, they became
famous because they were cheap and people realized that they could have fun
making music that sounded cool with them (which is how we should judge all
instruments anyway).

now notice that rebirth is pretty cheap (especially compared to 2 303s an
808 and a 909 these days) and i run into a lot of people that have a lot of
fun making music that sounds cool with it.

what i want to see is, 10-15 years from now, people paying upwards of $1000
for ReBirth version 1.0 and digging around for computers that can still run
it.. and flame wars over whether the distortion was better in version 3.0 or
4.1 on a "RB338-heaven" mailing list.. and rumors that an obscure cracked
version of ReBirth2.0 has a timing glitch that makes it swing better than
subsequent ones..

anyway, lighten up!
