I've remained silent on the topic of the 303 so far... Here are my 2 bits:
Beyond sonic differences between "real" synths and their emulations, it
matters a lot to most people if they are using the real thing or not for
mental (and for some of us, emotional :) reasons. This is a universal
argument which can be applied not only to the 303, but also to most
instruments. If you _use_ a 303 differently than rebirth, than that's the
biggest difference of all. Even if a synth sounds the same, the exact
feel of an instrument ("soul" if you will :) is very hard to duplicate. I
know that despite the fact my pulse is a sonically superior option from
101 and can _basically_ duplicate almost every sound the 101 can create, I
still use the 101 a lot because (beyond its superior slider layout and
ease of use) I know how to use it well enough to get just the sound I
want. Applied to the 303 dicussion, people will simply approach a computer
program differently than an actual physical synth.
Said another way, If you are passionate about the instrument you're using,
you'll use it differently than you would another instrument. You really
can tell when somebody knows their way around a synth, even if it does
have problems with it, like limited architecture, etc.

And to all those comments Re: women... don't even start with that crap
here. The last thing we need on this list is prejudice.
