this is true, I've used them in manufacturing line mixers, the shafts are 
intended to be twirled by tiny fingers.
They can be custom ordered in slightly longer and shorter shaft lengths, so
you can mount a pair on opposite sides of a single PCB above and below each
other,
so you have two rows of pots above and below each other, instead of that naff
'zig zag' effect. I had 8 channels, with vol, pan, 2 sends on each, in a single
rack unit.

But, these are not the most rugged pots in the world. You can't stand on them.

BTW, anyone thinking of making mixers, my advice is :DON"T: even think abt it.
