um, question here.... (eprom programmer)

my friend is giving me and eprom programmer because he is being evicted and
has to store all his stuff in storage anyways.. so he said i could have it
basically.

What does it do?
i mean i know it programs op amps (although i'm not completely sure what those
are exactly) like 741's and stuff... but is an op amp always an IC or vise
versa?
and can all IC's/op amps/funny-little-black things-with-legs be used in adudio
projects?  i saw the programmer and it can copy like 8 at a time if needed.
also he gave me a whole oganizer filled with probably over 1000 different
"things with legs".  The one's i've heard of from this list are the 741's
that's it.  They've been in his garage for a while now... he doesn't do this
stuff anymore, just like web pages and stuff... that's why he gave it to me...
so then that brings my next question up, which ones should i be looking for
that are useful or valueable?

some stuff drawrs were labeled "CMOS"  what's that?
