Steve G. sent along this url as an example of interesting waveform
development with wavetables, but it probably has a wider audience.

This is a short account of a group of guys figuring out vector
synthesis from the ground up. While it may be familiar history
to many on SYNTH-DIY, it wasn't to me. All I can say is, if you
liked Mark Vail's Vintage Synthesizers or some of the sidebars in
one of Julian Colbeck's Keyfax books, check out this three page
story, "The Birth of the Prophet VS." It has all of the important
elements of a great synthesizer epic: 1) A brilliant, but
initially very vague idea realized through hard work and dumb luck;
2) misguided advice from marketing folks; 3) goofy names for
clever features that once named cannot be renamed, no matter
how much the developer wishes he could change it; 4) everyone no
longer works for who they worked for then; and 5) beer.

PS. Thanks Steve G for a great little read!
