There was a project in a very old "Funkschau Sonderheft Musikelektronik"
where they complained about the sterile sound of electronic organs and
introduced a PLL system just like you described. Lots of little PC boards
with 4046's and divider chips, programmed with diodes as far as I remember.
Haven't seen this issue for a long time, but I haven't thrown it away, so
maybe
I'll find it some day and scan the article.
