Those gray rubber parts are supposedly silicone rubber,
and should not deteriorate as readily as conventional
butyl rubber. The little conductive pads, of course,
do get very get dirty. They seem to absorb oils very
well.

You could try cleaning the PC board thoroughly and
then slicing the bottom layer off the conductive
pads with a sharp razor. If you're lucky, and the pads
are conductive all the way through. If not, well.......

Anyone for starting a boycott of companies who used
these rubber contacts on pro keyboards? (Just a 
suggestion!)
