Are you familiar with the Akai S612? It's quite primitive (one voice, 384k ram,
12 bit samples) but might be a candidate for modification. Stock, it has #1,
sliders for #3 and #5, and a poor-to-average #6. It probably uses old computer
dram, too, but that doesn't get you anywhere because it's not expandable. All in
all, it's worth what you pay for it these days, IMHO. The only thing it really
lacks is a pitch CV (but of course it has MIDI). I doubt it would be very
difficult to CV up the loop start/stop sliders... and if somehow somebody got
ahold of the schematics (which don't seem to be available) I suppose a pitch CV
isn't out of the question.
If anybody has done any cool modifications to a S612, please let me know what you
did. :)
