...they almost certainly have a device that stops the inrush of current
when a TV first turns on...
Farnell carry the type you want I believe.
It is very different, a precision device.
A different approach from Electronic Design News is to glue the component
you want stabilised to a TO220 power transistor which is pulsed and used
as a heater/temp sensor. See it at:

BTW, on the analog/digital DIY synth debate, I notice to my horror that
