Analog DIY versus Digital DIY

My impression is that if you wanted to do DIY digital, the easiest way
is to generate the digital data via software in a pc or a microcontroller,
and then just pump the bits into a d/a converter. That seems more like a
software project.... you could use your sound card and do this 100%
with software.

Analgoue DIY is more about actually mucking with hardware circuits.

I can't really imagine trying to do non-software digital DIY...

Although digital controlled analogue would be pretty cool.. but it is
still "analogue" in the signal processign sense.
