I believe that it's a full wave rectifier, not a ring mod.  A true ring
mod or balanced modulator has a signal input and a second oscillator
input. The modulation of the signal and the second oscillator produce
the characteristic double sideband modulation that is characteristic 
of the ring mod/balanced mod. No second oscillator, not a ring mod.
