Well, my (20 years old) RCA CMOS Databook says 20V as absolute maximum supply
voltage for all 4000-series chips. Has that been changed?

CMOS, including 4066 have a limit of 15V. If you go as high as 18v, they
physically explode. I over-revved a generator feeding a cmos based traffic
light controller once. every chip was destroyed, with most physically
blowing apart. It was all over in under 1 second.
