The pin #s and the function of each pin are the same for both 
packages.
The tab indicates pin 8, and then the pins are counted up starting from 1 in 
the counterclockwise direction (therefore in the same direction as 
the DIP pin count is done).  
Thus, with the tab facing "up", 12  
o'clock, starting at 12 o clock, and proceeding _clockwise_ around the clock 
face, the count is 8,7,6,5...
