What are common procedures for syncing multitrack audio applications
with midi sequencer applications on same and on different work stations?

suppose I should have said that the best & AFAIK cheapest way to smpte stripe
was via MusicQuest cards (if you use PCs) (they were taken over by Opcode).
I used the MQX32M which had 2 midi ports and smpte out.
You run the smpte onto a tape, which takes an hour if you want to make an
hour of tape, so 
do it before hand.

Then as you run the tape, the MQX card generates midi for the rest of the
system to 
lock to.
