Hi all,
Sorry I'm a little late on this thread.
I don't have the address handy (happy to get it for anyone who wants it!)
but Schroff Inc. makes a complete enclosure system that takes care of all
backplane/cabinet/enclosure needs and is perfect for they synth DIY'er.
The stuff is absolutely beautiful (in the eye of this beholder) with tons
of different panel types, enclosures, card cages, etc. For all their stuff
you can buy proto-type (vector style) boards that mate perfectly with their
backplanes, cardcages and slide in modules. It's all eurocard standard stuff.
The problem is cost. I'm using their basic "Eurolab" style subrack with
their standard panels and enclosed panels (for those modules you want
shielded) and that stuff is *reletively* affordable. But as soon as you
start using all their backplane goodies, the cost shoots through the roof
(I decided I don't need a backplane *that* bad).
I thought I'd mention it because if you want to spend the dough, you really
can "bolt together" (no fabricating) a complete backplane system. Schroff
sells direct and seems happy to sell to individuals. Do a web search on
them or lemmi know and I'll get the address to anyone interested. They
also had by far the largest selection of panel sizes/types/accessories off
all the enclosure companies I researched (i'm one of those people who
wanted to have everything from little tiny panels to great big ones and
have it A: look good & B: bolt together).
Nope, I don't work for them! Just very happy with the product.
Buck
