Eric, these comments really show that you discuss from completely
diffrent angles and basis of knowledge. You will not get my sympathies
for bashing or jokeing about someone that has not the knowledge and
information that you have. I am assuming a few things here, but the
general touch of your mail has some nasty aspects...
Instead, spread the knowledge in a friendly tone and you would see
less of these ravings about tubes. There is a myth about tubes being
unstable and all that. Helps us understand!
This tube-transistor standoff is similar to the
analog-digital. Knowledge helps, bashing doesn't.

Please, no flame war!
You may have a strong case on technical facts (you don't have to
convince me) but you may very well loose big in how people listen to
you and have respect for your person. Personally I rather see you
around to help enlighten us in a friendly tone.
So if you want to spread the word/interest/knowledge/use of tube
technology, go and loose that flame war idea into the round archive
and let's start some giving discussions instead!
Don't say that I didn't invite you to enlighten me, I did (and you did
send some pointers which I enjoyed - thanks!).
Personally I just hate flame wars, they selldom lead to anything
really productive, they are mostly unproductive (they may however, but
rarely, have interesting and good side effects, but these could
happend in other ways).
BTW. The small temperature change that you reported, wasn't that due
to the small change of temperature of the cathode and thuse the energy
of the emitted electrones? I am probably way of, but do tell me.

The Germans had to learn LC curcuits pretty well when the allied
freezed the import of natural crystal from Brazil. They put some
effort into it and there is many (good) German texts from this time.
It is obvious that lack of access to a certain technology can boost
the knowledge in another field... it is however much more interesting
to combine the knowledges and see what you can do with the various
mixtures.
