Switching power supply fry

Thanks to those who posted responses to my SMPS question. The +5 output
has an LED with resistors connected across it that provides a small load
- it was working before the fry out - so it must be enough of a load.
The 12v side has no load - maybe this is why it's at +8v, I'll have to
check that.

I've checked out the circuit through the rectifier and big smoothing
cap. The transformer also seems to be working. I may try replacing the
output caps and the 5v reference zener, and give up if that doesn't
work.

My main motivation for wanting to repair rather than replace is that
this is a very small unit perfectly suited in size and power to the
application, and there's nothing like it in the major catalogs. I did
order some surplus stuff from All Electronics that may work as a viable
replacement - but you never know with them - I'll see when it gets
here...

- Thanks,
CList
