That is, if you want to emulate a vocoder with equal time constant for
every band. But some vocoders use faster envelope detectors for
the upper bands. So from a theoretical point, even if you leave out
the lowest bands, the rest would still be detected sub-optimal.

But personally I like vocoders with similar time constants more than
those with individually optimized time constants, because they 
reflect the nature of the human throat better.
