Hi Todd,

I can't overstate the functionality and outright cheapness of my Quick-Shot
MIDI controller. This is a FULL function unit, with tons of control
options, easy data entry via a quantized analog data entry slider pot, and
4 octave velocity-sensitive keyboard, which may be set to control any of 12
ranges.
They can be purchased (through Music-Go-Round for instance) for $129.00,
INCLUDING a full CD version of the CakeWalk home studio ($39.95, at least).
Not only does this unit provide a standard MIDI out, but it sports an
internal MIDI interface that is plug-compatible with the 'joyport' on most
PC sound cards, for quick and sleazy PC based sequencing.
Don't want to sacrifice your joystick to a keyboard? That's ok, because
the Quick-Shot has a thru connector for the joystick, as well.
When connected to a PC sound card, the unit required no additional power
supply.
I guess I like it; unusual for me and a commercial device.
Good Luck!
