Well, thank you everybody for all your help in finding out what my
mystery component is! Everybody was saying either UJT (which seemed to
match better, functionwise) or SCR (which matches the symbol
description). None of them looked right, though, and I still couldn't
find any similar circuits to mine that I could peruse for hints on
what was wrong. Mind you, I'm not very good at electronics at all, so
I decided to get myself a good allpurpose textbook on the subject.
After all, I do have a registered music electronics company in Sweden
(consisting of me and my friend Olof, playing around, mainly :-> ), so
perhaps I ought not to be a complete ignoramus...

Since everybody seems to be raving about "The art of Electronics" I
thought, "Oh, well", and went to an online bookstore and ordered. It
arrived today, I leafed a bit and then went to the index..."Hm, let's
see: Relaxation oscillator and, oh, UJT, then" and the first page I
look at has "my" component on it, in a configuration that looks rather
similar to the one in the synth! Turns out the correct answer is PUJT,
Programmable Uni-Junction Transistor...

This book really is amazing! Ok, so I know just about nothing
electronicswise (I know what a transistor looks like, but I couldn't
tell you which leg is Base, and I've no idea what it does), yet some
leafing later I'm able to look at small parts of the SH-1000 schemo
and go "Oh, so this thing switches on at a treshold voltage set by
those resistors, and...yes, that means it should go full swing". I'll
be reading this *a lot* during the coming week, I can tell you...And
then show me the synth that can resist my newfound analyzing powers
:-)

Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will return
with more focused questions when I've understood some more :-) Now, if
my upstairs neighbours could finish their loud-music-and-drunken-
shouting-party, then I could go to sleep...Ah, the joys of student
housing :-)

PS. Just had to share this little gem with you, from an absolutely
hilarious flame from Mr Roommate:

>> Matt, you're only looking silly doing this. Do yourself a favour

> HEY LEARN TO SPELL YOU FUCKING SCANDANAVIAN POOF - THAT ONE IS THREE WORDS
> AT A TOTAL OF 23 LETTERS - IT'S F-A-V-O-R

(The counting, of course, refers to my mention of "Four-letter words"...)
