No one has suggested the Anatek MIDI line drivers yet, which will do exactly what is required. The units are a pair, and use balanced mic cable to transmit the MIDI data up to 1000ft I believe. The units were fairly inexpensive (under $200) and are, for the time and effort involved in designing somehting similar, well worth it. -Cary
