good idea,it'll modulate output where pots are but it'll affect
both rise and fall

one more thing,if you make mods for release control I mentioned
you can add one 2M log pot in series with that diode ,resistor
and switch to reset pin (4) - you get release control 

and if you diconnect fall diode from (6) as I said and connect it 
to wiper of 10k pot with one end at vcc and other to discharge pin
(1) of 556 you get sustain control
