Hi Martin and List !
The ADI csound development kit is priced usd 1000 :)
(pci board with a slew of ported software plus the csound book)
This does not include SHARC development software, available "at a
small fee" .
A daughterboard is planned with digital i/o .
The target audience for this card are "sound developers" but the
blurb goes on to say that they want to license the technology (and
extended csound) to machine or card manufacturers .
The cards are "hand-build" at ADI .
The above i remember from a post (or several) to the csound mailing
list .
This was nov dec 97 .
There is still no release date for the book .
On the docs i've seen from creamware, there was no explicit talk of
csound, but i've not checked recently . The new pulsar, i heard of
on electronica, could well be the i/o board with 4 sharc's the
original Scope blurb went on about .
I'd be surprised though, that the virtual modular Creamware
mentions, is csound . For this one, my money is on Waldorf :)
Let's face it, they have to do a lot better than the Nord Modular,
and that is a very tall order ;-)
Csound, batch processing background and all, has big problems with
latency and midi i/o . People are working on it, but imho the basic
structure is not very well suited for real time operation . It is
also not easy to run in multiprocessor environments (but it has been
done) and afaik, has not been mentioned in excsound context .
Good luck :)
Keep 'em oscillating :)
