I second this.. I think the frequency response in a 741 vs. a TLXXX is
sonically apparent when you listen to a frequency sweep.. The
disadvantage of a TLxxx is that is seems to impart a slight amount of
gain in the upper frequencies which sounds unnatural, probably cause
most of us have become accustomed to the 741s/discrete trannies tendency
to round off high frequencies.. I think that perhaps the 741 response is
a little more musical..
I have reason to believe that perhaps this is why my Syntecno TeeBee
sounds a little *off* in a high filter resonance, and Im not the only
one who has noticed this, many reviewers and owners have the same
comment
..It seems to just go TOO high, until most types of distortion (mixer
gain, Sovtek big muff, se-50) are unable to impart added harmonics...
The ONLY thing in the audio circuitry of the Syntecno TeeBee that has
been reasonably changed is the op-amps from simple low power op-amps to
TLxxx series.. I actually think that the loss of low end and the
overbearing highs are caused by this substitution!
Since all the ICs are socketed, Im going to order a handful of low
power 741s and see if Im correct :))
