I find 1/8" jacks to be (relatively) unreliable: jiggling and cussing to 
get the jacks to work is involved in some cases.

And also I've found that the holes for 1/4" and banana jacks (and pots, 
incidentally) are so close in size that you can substitute one for the
other if you think ahead. Ideally this would be nice, since i would want
to put banana jacks into mine if I got one. My main reason for using them
is stackability: being able to stack plugs saves front panel space in many
cases, and there's little chance of a bad connection. The downside is that
they're unshielded... but this has all been covered before. 

I think the difference in size between the pots I use and banana jacks is
about 2mm or so, with the pots being slightly larger. 1/4" jacks fit right
in banana jack holes. (this is of course just personal experience with the
last bunch of parts I got from Mouser.)
