Sorry not really. I had been collecting these things for some years
now knowing that it was possible to do that kind of thing. I had once needed
to extract the MIDI clock from a MIDI stream but never actually did it. Now
I use microprocessors as it's just as easy and far more flexible. Probably
cheaper too. I don't know how much those ay3 chips go for these days.
ATMEL's little Flash ram based 8051 cores come in @ about 5 bux US each and
they're damn fast and more than adiquate for MIDI.
Only trouble is that you have to program them and as programmers go, I make
a better brick layer. But the big advantage is that they can replace a whole
board full of parts in a single 20 pin chip.
For the AY3 chip you'd have to find the data sheet to truly grasp what I'm
talking about. I think I have a photocopy of one somewhere but I'd have to
do a bit of a search. I'm not sure if it's available as a PDF file on the
net but I'm sure someone on the list would know.
Out of interest, Barry Klein, Terence Thomas and myself are toying with the
idea of a microprocessor based project that would do probably what you're
after. This is mainly to drive Terence's series of MIDI projects. But I'd
ahve to develop it and I'm kinda snowed under at the moment.
I'm sorry that it's about all the help I can give you just at the moment.
However if I think of any simpler ways to approach this I'll let you know.
But out of interest you might want to check out the Terence Thomas pages on
our new web site.
Hope that helps.
