Buzzzzz. Wrong! The only processor as such on a TripleDAT II board is the
8751 which handles MIDI and orchestrates the system. The other chip mounted
on an angle is mainly the digital audio stuff. A conglomerate of A-D, D-A
and S/PDIF Transceiver. The RS422 switching is done in shrapnel.
Trust me. I've been doing this stuff for years.
It's only advantage in real terms is that it does not have to suffer speed
loss due to WAV files. It uses it's own file format which allows
non-destructive editing and adhears to a standard digital audio format.
Including all sub-codes. Note here that unlike SAW and many others, the
original recorded data is never altered unless specifically copied by the
user. All manipulations including volume, pan and even cutting are done in
real time using pointers and envelope data. The point shouldn't be lost here
that this also largely eliminates the problem of dithering. Or at least it
leaves it till the final mix down.
The CPU does all the work. And the point here, and the only point I've been
trying to get across to yo' sorry asses is that a CPU such as P200 is an
amazingly powerful beast. Capable of doing all this stuff without getting
bogged down. Even under win95. IF! And only if, you know what you are doing
as a coder. If you do not optimize your code etc, Of course you are going to
get latency.
Be absolutely Icebox.
