IMO the problem with a digital delay line is that they
don't sound half as good as an analogue delay when
the feedback is set for infinite repeats. I used to get
all sorts of cool overload effects out of my Memory Man
Deluxe.
Given the high price of bbd chips and the cheapness of
SRAM, I wonder if it would be possible to build a hybrid
delay, with a long digital delay and short bbd in series -
the theory being that if the bbd overloads long before the
digital delay, then you end up with an analogue sounding
device.
I feel some experimentation coming on...
