Hmm, If I remember it right the zener-diodes use 
two different physical effects, first the zener effect
(from 0 to about 6V) and secondly the avalanche effect (from 6V on).
The Zener effect and the avalanche effect have opposite drift, 
so the most stable zener-diodes are arround 5.1 to 6.2V. 
Zener-type zener diodes have decreasing voltage with increasing 
temperature. Avalanche-type zener diodes (Hell, what a confusion!!!!) 
have increasing voltage with increasing temp.
