Hi Ben,

The often-referenced National Semiconductor AN-299 is viewable at:
http://www.national.com/an/AN/AN-299.pdf and has an exponential-response
VCO on page 1.  This is just be one possible starting point for VCO designs.
The list's members have quite a few designs of their own.
