newbie with some questions.

Hi, I'm totally new to building circuits, let alone building synths, so I have
some questions.  

I'm trying to build a modular type system, ground up.
I've finished my power supply (-+15vDC) and it works great (except I blew out
the LED's).  

I've been trying to find schematics for simple VCO's that don't need hard to
find parts (or at least parts that I have to order).  I'm in Phoenix AZ, so
there are a lot of shops that sell components, but I'm not sure of what to
get.  Every schematic that I've found has at least one or two parts that I
can't locate yet.  well.  I dunno.  

I guess I'm just looking for some tips and pointers, and maybe some easy VCO
schematics...

By the way, my name is ben, and I'm glad that this list exists.  It seems cool
so far..
