The was a discussion some time ago about the Holtek HT8955A
"Voice Echo" chip
(http://www.holtek.com/docum/Consumer/8955a.htm)

I was never able to find a price or a source for the chips, so I
eventually forgot about them. I was flipping through a Tech-
America catalog this weekend and found them. They sell
for $5. The catalog number is 900-7548.

.8 seconds delay at 25khz sampling rate (can go as high as
50khz)
10bit AD/DA converters.

Delay time is controlled by a resistor, maybe an LDR or
OTA could be used to have a voltage controlled delay?

Add the 4164 DRAM at $1.83, and a handful of resistors
and caps, and have a VCDD for under $20...

I bought two of them, I'll post to the list when I try
them out.
