Greetings all,

I've been lurking around the list for a few months now, but this is my
first post so I thought I should give a brief intro on myself. I'm a
university student in Canada, and I'm just getting into the DIY thing. My
Electronics background is sketchy, but I'm doing a few projects with a
friend who works for an amp manufacturer in town and is guiding me along.
Problem here is, he knows amps inside out, but little about synths! I've
been studying schematics for various projects for about a year now, and can
recognize some patterns when I see them, but a great deal remains pretty
sketchy and the theory is totally beyond me at this point. In light of
this, please forgive any stupid questions I may ask!! (I'll keep them to a
minimum anyway, as I hope to force myself through as much as I can)

Anyways, to the question portion of our show! I have an SSM2040 and 2020,
and would like to build the now infamous 2040/2020 VCF. I have checked out
the datasheets for both, but they don't seem as clearly laid out as the
Curtis sheets, thus I have a few questions in this regard.

	1. How would the control pots be wired up for both the 2040 and 2020? I
would hate to wire things up with the wrong voltage or something and fry
one of these babies!

	2. In the VCF schematic, an oddball op amp is used. Am I right in assuming
that a reasonable replacement would not effect the sound? What would be a
reasonable replacement here?

	3. The VCF only uses 1/2 of the 2020, so it would be nice to use the other
half for a VCA. The datasheet for the 2020 seems REALLY bizarre to me on
this, as it relies on a lot of theory. Is there anyone out there with a
simple VCA schematic using 1/2 of a 2020? I just can't seem to recognize
what is going on in the control section!

Anyways, thanks for putting up with my backwardness. If anyone can help me
out, I would be GREATLY appreciative!!

Thanks in advance,
Gavin Muir

P.S. This is a great list, so much thanks to everyone for keeping me
entertained and distracted for the last few months!
