best way to do labeling on chassis?

Yes, I've done this. Gene Stopp actually described his procedure for it
about 8 or 9 months ago so I was inspired, gave it a try, and it worked
great. It's definitely the simplest and easiest method I've found. You
do the layout and print it with any old laser printer. Put a border on
the image that is about 1/4" (60mm) smaller than the size of the panel.
Cut the paper out along the boarder. Bring it to you local film
developing place or copy center (Kinko's, etc) - they should do
laminating there. It takes about a minute and costs about $3, and they
can usually do pieces up to 11x17, but maybe not - so you might need two
pieces for a full panel.
I highly recommend gluing it down. I used a combination of Elmer's
Glu-all (gooey, in a tube stuff) and 3M Spray77. There's other 3M spray
#?? type glues that are harder to find (but you can order them through
Newark) that look like they'd work better - Spray 80 and Spray90 I think
- but I haven't tried them. Anyway, you should glue it so the corners
stay down.
The finish looks nice and clean and smooth and is actually much stronger
than I thought it would be, I've been very happy with the results -
mainly 'cause it's **so** quick, simple, and easy to do with
(relatively) "common household items". The only problem I had was
drilling through the lamination, as it tends to get a little gross
around the holes. The laminate frays, and the metal underneath pushes up
making a little bump under it, undoing the glue a little - even with a
high-speed drill press. No big deal though, because the knobs and jacks
cover this up 99% of the time. Gene mentioned that he punched all the
holes out of his laminate (with a punch) before gluing it down - but I
see that as a lot of extra work for little gain...
