Thought this might be of interest to DIYers.
John,
Here is a compilation of sensor sources, culled from a recent discussion on
the Max list. I can't vouch for any of these companies, as this is 2nd
hand information, but here you go:
Check these places out for sensors
Images Company
POB 140742
Staten Island NY 10314
ph 718-698-8305 sales and information
fax 718- 982-6145
They have a catalog which lists bend/flex sensors like the ones
in the Mattel Power Glove, Peizo-Electric Film Sensors and lots of other
potentially useful stuff.
InterLink Electronics
ph. 800-340-1331 toll free in North America
fax 805-484-8989
Interlink makes the FSR (force sensing resistor) sensors. You can get an
FSR
design kit with several of their sensors and documentation which has
schematics and info on their stuff.
Engineers Mini-Notebook
Sensors Projects
by Forest M. Mimms III
cat. no. 62-5026
This book from Radio Shack describes lots of ways to make your own
sensors. Lots of great ideas.
Honeywells Micro Switch division
ph. 1-800-537-6945 to get a cataloge with descriptions, parts, and
application notes.
They make all kinds of solid state sensors: pressure, vaccum gauge,
temperature, airflow,etc.
All these sensors will interface with the iCube or a Basic Stamp 1 or 2.
Other Sensor Information on the WWW:
The "flex" sensor from Jameco might do the trick:
