I convinced myself normalised connections were a *bad* thing, after I
decided to use banana leads ;-)

One thing I would suggest is not to make the mistake of having all your
patch leads the same colour - you rapidly lose the ability to see where
everything is going if it's just a big mass of the same cable.
On the down side, this costs more...
