This is essentially what I meant with the "monoflop" method.
All the audio tracks on my homepage are sync'ed like
that. Only that I have used a SSM2056-based envelope
generator for the monoflop (just because it was there in
the modular - it will surely work with a simple 555 as well !)
You must adjust the "on"-time manually to fit yout beat
rate (approximately), but then it works excellent, even when
triggered from sounds that vary in amplitude.
(which is a problem when you work with envelope detector)
