got a scope

Just want to say, that I got my Hameg scope yesterday from the
Post Office. Model 1504. Very clean, no visible noise at 1mV /
cm. Microprocessor controlled, autoset, save/recall, readout, delayed time
base, calibration without opening the scope right from the menu, very
bright tube, test generator 1kHz/1MHz for probe calibration, everything
you want from an analog scope. I tortured it with signal generators, CD
player and soundcard. Nice xy display on stereo signals gives correlation
meter. {My CDs are absolutetly not mono compatible (not intended to be)}.
Caveats (*so far*):
The user interface is a bit weird, some buttons have tripple functions,
so you have to look into the manual for some special funtions. But some
Tek DSO with "analog feel" are much worse... Also the scope has no 50
Ohm input option, you have to buy special 50 Ohm adapters, but I'm not
shure if I need any. And , errr they could have adapted the readout
to the 10:1 probes via menu, ok, I'll always work with these probes, so
100mV means actually 1V, I think I can remember this all the time.
Tek and HP scopes try to determine wether you use a 10:1 probe or not,
after some time this mechanism beginns to fail due to contact problems,
so the readout starts to randomly toggle 1mV... 10mV ... 1mV. So ,
not changing at all is still the better way...
Some years ago Hameg (it is a German manufacturer) was known for trash
scopes, now they are much better. Forget about the past.
2300 DM for 150 MHz -3 dB bandwidth, I think a good price.
If you don't want to spend so much money: modells 1004 (2100 DM) and
404 (1300 DM) have the same technology, but less bandwidth. I *think*
they work as good as my top notch model.
It seems that ELV has pushed all other vendors out of the market, via
aggreement with Hameg. Other vendors get no scopes, or with ridicolous
latency.
>From my point of view, one day after recieving mine, I can recommend
these scopes.
The problem here in Germany is, that there seems to be no market for used
scopes etc. There are companys that sell refurbished used gear, but still
very expensive. So it appeared to me a better deal to get a new one...
See washing machines ;->.
