I noticed the .edu address - you might want to check your school's 
physics or science departments - frequently they will have an
in-house machine shop and would have a large sheet-metal shear.

Check for local commercial metal vendors - they will want to sell you 
sheets a couple feet by a couple tens of feet but since they also cut 
to size, they may well have a pile of shorts that you can paw through 
and buy for a buck or two a pound.  Take these to the physics metal 
shop and have them cut them for you.  Offer to trade something fun - a 
CD of your music or a simple synth circuit or couple pints or...
