You could still get fairly long delays if you had a larger platter. 5' or
10' in diameter might be a good start. And you wouldn't have to worry too
much about runout in the bearings--half a gallon of mercury should smooth
things out. The only real technical challenge is that the media and heads
are for digital recording, but if you like the sound of non-linear
recording who cares? Maybe you could even hook it up to some serial
converters and have a variable speed analog/digital delay. Be a bitch to
take on tour, but it would help to keep the bus from slewing around and
causing motion sickness if you kept it running all the time.
