Two other questions:
(1) Are they inexpensive ?
(2) Are there second sources to buy them ?
The second one is most important. Large companies won't use chips
that are built from at least two manufacturers, for good reason.
If you rely on one source, you'll get in trouble. Just think about
EH and the MN BBD chips.
For DIY builders, I'd say it's a good rule of thump to have a second
source *distributor*, regardless of how many manufacturers there are
for one chip.
The best circuits from DIY perspective are those built from standard
transistors and opamps.
