How high do you want to count and what sort of range do you need.

There are a bunch of 16 counters out there.  There are also some 
counters that are designed to be chained together to get as many 
decades of counting as you need.  There are also counters that let you 
pre-load a number into them and they start counting from that number ( 
rather than zero ) and there are also up/down counters of several 
sorts.
